About the CNA exam
Every state requires a competency exam to become a CNA. It has two parts: a written (or oral) knowledge test and a hands-on skills test where you perform several randomly chosen skills, like handwashing, measuring vital signs or transferring a resident, in front of an evaluator.
Many states use the NNAAP exam; others use their own version. The skills test is where most people struggle, so practice every step out loud, including the ones that feel obvious, like knocking, identifying the resident and washing your hands.
